I am really delighted to have my work feature within the latest issue of Speech Link’s national magazine, The Link.
Speech Link are a wonderful company, full of enthusiasm and drive who enable schools to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs. They are based in Canterbury and I have had the pleasure of meeting with them and sharing in our mutual love of children’s literature and the desire to inspire and encourage children to grow in their education and learning through producing high-quality books and resources.
Within their latest magazine, The Rhymers feature in an article exploring the importance of rhyme in children’s educational development. In the piece, Ruth Merritt, SaLT, shares her own experiences and how in a recent phonics session it struck her how important rhyming can be. Ruth comments that “experts in literacy and child development in Wales have discovered that, if a child knows eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they are four years old, they are usually among the best readers and spellers in their class by the time they are in Year 3.”
The role of rhyme and how it can benefit your child
I have also written about the importance of rhyme in speech, language and literacy development in another blog post. In it I highlight how scientific research demonstrates that rhymes are important for language development, physical development, cognitive development and social/emotional development.
Free Rhyming Rhymers’ Resources
Also offered within the latest Link magazine is a free education resource pack from The Rhymers. There are puzzles, stories, colouring sheets and rhyming activities suitable for Foundation and Key Stage One children. Children are encouraged to send their own work to feature in The Rhymers’ ever-growing art and story Gallery, by emailing me.
