Nigel Peter Kent
Photographer, Poet & Story Teller
Nigel is an Englishman, born in Hampshire and he grew up in Wiltshire. He began traveling extensively when he was 18 years old, until he settled down in the USA. He now lives in Rochester, New York State, near the southern shore of Lake Ontario. This area (the Finger Lakes Region) is full of waterfalls, lakes and streams which gives him endless opportunities for his passion, which is landscape photography. Some of his favourite photographs are now included in his first published book.
The poems and short stories in his book, ‘Soul Walker‘, came from a turbulent period in his life, during which he was struggling with his demons, and writing seemed to ease the pain for a while. He would either take a photograph then write something around it, or would write a poem then go out searching for a photograph to match it. One fed the other, and so it grew.
Nigel has been an active conservationist for more than twenty years, long before green became cool. He works with three regional conservation organisations, and supplies them with photographs of their properties, which are used for public relations work and to encourage donations. He loves what he does because it gives an opportunity to give something back to our beautiful environment. As Nigel remarks, “if it weren’t for conservationists, we’d all be walking on concrete.”
